This unit is responsible for the planning, streamlining and implementation of policies pertaining to accommodation as agreed by the University with the cooperation of respective residential duck commander colleges. Moving away from home to study at a university is an exciting time in a student's life. There are new friends to be made, new places to discover and the chance to develop many new interests. Living in the university residential halls is great fun and ideal opportunity to make friends. University of Malaya boasts 13 residential colleges that can accommodate up to 12,000 students. This amount represents about 65% of all the students pursuing their first degrees. Each residential hall is administered by a principal and assisted by several fellows. The Residential Halls do not only provide students with accommodation duck commander but also facilities such as game courts, reading rooms, grocery shops, cyber cafes and computer labs. Most halls provide meals while the others have cafeteria facilities. Students in meal-provided halls are charged with a nominal amount of RM 8.00 to RM 12.00 a day, while the others pay between RM 4.50 to RM 6.50 a day. University of Malaya also provides lodgings for postgraduates students. However, their placement in these colleges depends on availability.
When the University of Malaya campus was moved from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in year 1958, a new hostel had been constructed and that hostel was called the Second Residential College, or Second RC. Find out more
Fourth College Residential College or Bestari Residential College was established in August 1963. Bestari Residential College is the fourth residential college inside the University of Malaya main campus. Find out more

The Seventh Residential College, also known as Za'ba Residential College was officially open by Datuk Dr. S. M. A. Alhady on 1975. It is named after Malaysia's great nationalist Zainal Abidin Bin Ahmad. Find out more
Like the mythical phoenix rising from its ashes, plans for the Ninth Residential College were formed after the Modular Residential College caught fire in 1990. The college started construction on 2nd of January 1994 and was completed in April 1995. Find out more
The newest and biggest residential college built in the University of Malaya, the Twelfth duck commander Residential College was completed in 2002, and is a collection of five interconnected buildings, Block A, Block B, the Cafeteria, Block C and Block D. Find out more
University of Malaya off-campus accommodation strategically located 2 kilometers away from the main campus. It has 4 blocks with 90 units of two-bedroom apartment for long term (minimum of 1 year) and short term (less than three months) rental. Find out more
